If you’re dreaming of having a laid-back Maine, wedding the Garden Gate at Haley Farm in Sebago is the perfect venue. Inspired by their many trips to Portland, Maine, Molly and Chris planned a relaxing wedding day surrounded by friendly people and live music, with great food and drinks.
As I opened the door to the newly renovated bridal suite, I heard a fun playlist along with the chatter of everyone getting ready. Molly had her hair pinned up and was beaming with excitement. After two and a half years of planning, she was finally marrying her best friend. Seeing her with all her girls filled my heart with so much joy. The genuine smiles and bursts of laughter were contagious! But the best part of the morning was the casual, relaxed vibe that carried on throughout the entire day!
Chris and his groomsmen spent the morning kayaking and returned from their adventure just in time to start getting ready. As they fixed their ties and put on their jackets, they shared stories of some of their best memories and with Chris. Reminiscing with friends before you see your bride is something every groom should do.
Just as we walked out in the field for Molly and Chris’s first look, it started misting, and that mist quickly turned into heavy rain. Although the quiet porch on the front of the farmhouse was not where we planned for their first look to happen, it turned out to be a beautiful spot. The two of them got to enjoy having a little time alone before they celebrated with all their guests. They exchanged letters, laughed together, and whispered in each other’s ears. I always remind my couples to savor this time together. To truly enjoy the moment, and be fully present for it, because it is the only alone time you have during your wedding day. Molly and Chris did just that. You can see in each of their photos how in love these two are.
When the rain stopped, we wandered the gorgeous property around Garden Gate at Haley Farm in Sebago, Maine. Molly and Chris wrapped up in each other’s arms and made capturing their portraits so easy. If you want my best marriage advice, it’s to marry someone who makes you smile. Marry someone who lights up your whole face every time you look at them.
One of my favorite parts of Molly and Chris’s laid-back Maine wedding was their ceremony. Their planners at Fern and Flair did an incredible job to make sure it could take place outside. Surrounded by the trees, they both walked down the path to their harbor in sandals. Molly slid hers off at the beginning of the aisle and spent most of the day barefoot. Molly and Chris shared personalized vows they wrote for each other. They were then pronounced husband and wife and shared their first kiss. As they excitedly walked down the aisle, their best man realized he was still holding their rings. Their officiant got their attention. Of course, everyone laughed as they made their way back to the harbor to exchange their unique wedding bands.
Before everyone made their way to the food trucks, we snuck in some fun family photos. And of course, we took a few with their adorable dog Cooper! He even dressed up for this special occasion with his sage green bow tie!
After enjoying delicious tacos, Molly and Chris shared their first dance as husband and wife. The Edison lights draped from the rafters created a romantic glow throughout the entire barn.
Guests were seated in the cross-back chairs and gathered around the long farm table with simple wildflower centerpieces as they toasted Molly and Chris’s marriage. The speeches given during their wedding reception were some of the best I’ve ever heard. Molly’s mom talked about how she knew Chris was the one the moment she met him. Chris’s dad shared an essay Chris wrote in the fourth grade. As you can imagine, this got lots of laughs.
The Silver Arrow band performed enthusiastically and packed the dance floor! Molly and Chri’s laid-back Maine wedding had so many joyous moments it was nearly impossible to pick my favorites. I hope you love this small sample of their wedding day as much as I do!
